Default USA Gambling Rules - What's allowed, if anything?

Apologies in advance if this is a duplicate subject.

We target the UK but I hear more and more affiliates talking about targeting the USA. I clearly have my finger off the pulse here, but can you fill me in on exactly what online gambling the yanks can do i.e. casino, bingo, sports etc. I thought it was all a no go area.

Horse Racing has a carve out ... thanks to large amounts of lobbying over decades.
Daily Fantasy Sports and Poker thought it did - and was wrong = now can only legally run in a few states.

This is a hard question to answer as it depends on who you are. Assuming the affiliates are promoting offshore companies facing the USA market (which they are in the threads you refer to) then the USA authorities would say it was illegal. However there are various arguments that can be made to counter that, such as the fact these companies are "licensed" in territories that do not view their activity as illegal (such as costa rica, panama, kahnawake, antigua). Frankly, if you get into promoting companies licensed / located out of any of these jurisdictions that accept americans then you need to be aware the US authorities do not regulate them and instead view them as illegal / racketeering etc etc. Arrests have been made, operators have done prison time, arrest warrants are outstanding for operators (thinking calvin ayre), pressure has been exerted and bank accounts seized (thinking 5dimes most recently), domains seized (that's why they are all .lv , .ag .eu extensions - not .com) etc etc.

Good points Justbookies - I was just talking about the official US view ...

Of course there are several places that do offer betting on Sports / Casino / Poker to US citizens .. usually with Curacao and/or Costa Rica license.
