I would imagine a link in the content rather than the footer
I've just read this thread, the majority of people have made good points in terms of specific link types to use... but it still surprises how many people convince themselves that "certain" link positions (i.e relating to placement NOT quality) are now completely devalued, "spammy", or pointless.
There's some great content in this thread but ultimately it's VARIATION that's going to see you well. Not variation in quality - we don't want low quality PBN's - or worse (remember the XRumer days?!) - linking to our money sites... but we definitely DO want to utilise different link locations across the board... and yes, this includes;
In Content Links
Hompage Links
Sitewide Links
Sidebar Links
Footer Links
...Deep Page Links! (OK, you get the point).
If we are going to build links ourselves with the plan to make it appear to G as something resembling organic growth, we only be building contextual links in articles. If 100 people without prompting or bribing linked to your website, I can guarantee you it would be a mix of all the above link positions and many more to boot!

The link in the content is better.
Of course. Link in the content is always better
Definitely in post. Site wide footer links are too spammy.
Write a good relevant article and backlink there and to make it more natural, add one or two backlinks to some authority sites with relevant content to you article.
our preference is always links in quality content from high authority sites. moreover, it will also bring extra traffic (referrals) from such post.
Hello!
The content links works better but if it's relevant article at the relevant and trusted website to your promoted page.
Also it's great to build different types of links. If link is really useful you may get some refferal traffic too except of the SEO boost.
I have done a good mix of guest posts, blog posts and forum comments but my rank hardly goes up. Any expert here can help me out?
it is advisable to have links within the text of the posts instead on Sidebars and footers.
No brainer. Within the content.
Google counts only the links considered "editorial votes". A link in the footer can hardly be one.
Better post on article looks natural and do the best your content !

Links are always helps to drive traffic to your website but the link should be place to a related website.
Guest posting links is the best SEO tactic, It can be a key tactic to boost your traffic and content marketing ROI. Guest blogging also builds trust. If trusted, authoritative sites publish your content, some of that trust rubs off on you. In fact, regular guest blogging can help others see you as an expert, which is great for the reputation of your business.
It is best to link into the content. In addition, the quantity of links is important according to the length of the article.
Make sure you have DoFollow if you want it for rank.
absolutely sure that guest posts) especially on a site where there is a lot of relevant traffic and where there is high user activity.
Link in content is a lot more powerful, for a footer it would have to be a super relevant site from my experience
Always try to create relevant backlink for your site which will your site to rank in SERP and there will be less chance of increasing spam score of your site.
The problem with the footer link is that it creates a lot of links in comparison to the amount of referring domains your site would have. The best kind of link like most people above me have mentioned in my opinion would be a contextual link within a relevant piece of content with good linking between the homepage and said page of content.
Only if there is a logical, intuitive reason to have the link in the footer from the user’s point of view would I do it. Otherwise, I would put it in a post, again, only where it makes sense. If it doesn’t seem natural with the text around it, you’d be better off without it. So, make sure you are surrounding it with quality, relevant content.
