Issue with KeyAffiliates: how affiliate managers drain affiliates' money (RESOLVED)
It’s Traffic Squad which cooperates with influential market players. Usually, we share profitable case studies, but today we want to share an anti-case of working with an affiliate program. Why? Because we can. And because honesty and transparency are our main values, and sometimes powerful work requires a bitter truth rather than sweet lies.
What started it all?
From ICE London conference, where we met aff managers of KeyAffilistes international affiliate program and decided to cooperate. Mostly, we work with direct advertisers, and not with aff programs, but in this case our intuition failed us. The affiliate manager advised CasinoMaxi offer to launch for Turkey, arguing that the offer is of high quality, has a good conversion, the advertiser is verified and "I swear by all my relatives on my father's side", they have been cooperating with for a long time and successfully.
Important thing is the postbacks are updated every 10 hours on this offer. It is optimal to work with products on which it is updated no longer than 3-4 hours, so allow to optimize campaigns in realtime. Later, at our own risk, we agreed to make a test launch, because the affiliate manager highly recommended it.
And what then?
We conducted a survey on the conditions: CPA rate, minimum deposit on the product, CAP we can fall out, bonuses, restrictions and KPIs.
The aff manager prescribed: 250 FTDs of CAP test, due to restrictions we should apply only bonuses that are valid for the product to creatives. This is where the first doubts crept in, so for our part, we warned the manager that CAP could overlaunch due to such a postback, so we do not claim an overcap.
We launched traffic on 07.03.2023 and realized that do not go to the fortune teller and we were right about a postback. The first update of the statistics took place after 24 hours (08.03.2023), not after the promised 10 (spoiler: in the future, the postback worked every 24-28 hours).
The first results were satisfactory, tested the offer for 15 FTD, talked with the manager about scaling and got approval. At the same time, we took into account the fact that at the beginning of the integration we approved 250 FTD caps, but just in case, we discussed the conditions additionally.
Let's go further. 09.03.2023 – after updating the statistics, received 35 FTDs, discussed with the manager scaling up to 100 FTDs (with an additional gap of 50 FTDs, since it was launching "blindly" and with a postback of 24 hours). 150 FTDs of CAP were installed in the system.
10.03.2023 – we haven't received any FTDs, which is surprising considering the number of installs. In this case, it was decided to request a test for "push notifications" from the advertiser to additionally push players and increase traffic activity.
11.03.2023 – the deposits arrived and as a result 176 FTDs came out. Returned to the advertiser to continue the launch, but received feedback from affiliate program that they have questions about the quality of the traffic. It was decided to let the traffic "play" and wait to analyze the traffic in the distance.
21.03.2023 – dear diary, advertiser reported that all traffic is inactive and a large percentage of players who made a deposit do not play, and later all players stopped playing completely. After clarifying the details, we learned that the affiliate manager deactivated the link on 10-11.03, which caused 100% rejection of players.
What is the problem? When we launch traffic with our own applications, deactivating a link equals dead traffic. Due to the incompetence of the manager, we got bad traffic and lost money. To resolve the situation, we explained the reasons for the problem to the manager and asked him to convey this information to the advertiser.
23.03.2023 - this is where things got really ridiculous. The affiliate manager did not inform the advertiser about the reason for the lack of activity of the players, but also informed us that there will be no commission payment for the traffic. The advertiser did not admit his mistake arguing that "these are your problems".
Compromise to get out of the situation and any further arguments were rejected and subsequently the message was completely ignored. As a result, no compensation or payment for FTDs took place.
Amount of cut traffic: 8766€.
The affiliate manager was afraid and deactivated all traffic.
Such an attitude (that is, its absence) is a vivid example of the affiliate manager's irresponsible work. No promises, no forgiveness, no profit.
In conclusion, we want to say that the affiliate program should understand all aspects of the traffic that they buy and sell. The affiliate program that we are talking about today is not an expert in this niche,is not ready to take responsibility and in such cases, accordingly, is not ready to defend the interests of either its own or affiliates, which became the main problem of this case.
We do not advise working with this affiliate program and urge you to approach the choice in more detail!
