Default Do you think this is acceptable?

Do you think it is acceptable to send two emails, a Skype request on an unpublished Skype account, and post a comment on a public facing page of my website, all at the same time, to ask me to join your brand?

If I want that sort of sales tactic I'll go to a secondhand car showroom.

I'd probably be willing to bet that this type of "marketing" is deemed unacceptable by item #2 (last sentence) of the GPWA Sponsor Code of Conduct that even silver level sponsors are expected to follow.

IF you answered ANY of them saying you weren't interested then no it's not reasonable. That should get them to stop.

But if you ignored them (as I often do - see below) then receiving emails and skype requests is OK, and the public comment on your comment facilities is also OK if the four contacts were strung out over a week. It's an attempt to make contact. You cannot really blame business approaches using the mechanisms you set up.

I don't think it breaches any expected business behaviour or GPWA codes of Conduct - IF it doesn't continue when you decline it.

Handling cold call approaches just something you have to do if you are displaying advertising and making your way up the SERPS. take it as a compliment that they've noticed your website and search positions. I usually reply to the better requests (saying NO in 99% of cases), and just ignore the most hamfisted ones.

Typically I file them away in an "Approaches" email folder, and with 4 years of data now it's amazing how persistent, and how many different programs some names have worked for. I also note that where I have said no - usually the person does not write again.

Most annoying are some operations that seem to have hundreds of freelance AMs - saying no to one just means another person tries next week, and then another and another etc. Those are the ones I just ignore.

I agree with TheGooner. As long as you don't respond it is okay I think. Especially the emails and skype. It is possible that they have the wrong email address or an address you don't use anymore.
The public comment is already harder. Everyone can read it. They should at least wait a bit if they got any response to the email and Skype.

In what time frame did you get all these requests?

Everything was in the space of 10 minutes! So not weeks, or even days, or even hours. It was minutes.
I have a contact button in my footer, most respectable companies would just use that.

Edit: Just read the time stamps on the messages; Email to my Outlook at 12:23, email to my Gmail at 12:34, Skype request at 12:34 and comment posted at 12:26.
Any company that engages in these sales tactics will get a NO from me, however iAffiliates is the only one that has done this.

That is a bit sleazy. I can't stand those sales tactics. Publicly posting is not cool, if you were interested that is a private convo.

I never being a supporter of pestering someone with promotional offers..I am a firm believer that for promotion one communication medium should be chosen.
