To create the effect we used a 5D camera mounted on a helmet. It was a pleasure to work with Betfred again and I insisted that their boss Fred Done appeared in the advert.?br />
John Haddock, managing director of Betfred, commented: “Our mobile product is a fantastic innovation for our punters and I am absolutely delighted with the advert. You can put on your football and horse-racing bets but the best innovation is betting in play. You can now have a punt while watching the match in the pub or actually at the game. In answer to your questions, currently it is only sports betting via mobile, Casino is in the pipeline to be added in the future.

The tracking issue is clearly key and one that operators and affiliates have struggled with in this channel in some cases.

The key difference with us is that rather than developing a downloadable app, we have a mobile-optimised website with all the same odds, offers and bets as BetFred.com. The tracking remains online and web-based as normal via our Income Access system, players just access the web via their mobile handsets instead of a PC. We have regular banners for your websites and mobile-optimised banners for your mobile sites but it all works in the same way as usual - the only difference is in the device that the player is using to access the internet.

In addition to this, we can also offer affiliates a way to track players who sign up via their mobile device FIRST Many of our competitors can only suggest that you get the registration online first and then drive the player towards their mobile product.

With BetFred, you will be able to apply for a Mobile Tracking Keyword that you can promote to your players: "Just text [keyword] to 89660" Players then receive an auto-SMS containing a link for them to click from their phone. This link already contains your unique tracking parameter so that when they sign up you get the referral.

Using Mobile Tracking Keywords like this means that you don't even need to have a mobile-optimised site to be able to benefit from this new market which is growing rapidly in the UK. While I can see that mobile betting is a potential market - I'm dubious that it's used a great deal - and I was not prepared to dabble with all the holes in affiliate tracking that I'd identified.

Betfred appear to have closed most of those holes

- so I'd like to request one of these keyword codes to give it a go and see what the uptake is.

I'll make a special feature section of it - and have Betfred as the ONLY website promoted this way for an initial period of 3 months. We will judge the uptake from there.

PM or email the code please - and we will also discuss the ins and outs and best promotion angles from Betfred's experience too!

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I'm in the office tomorrow so I'll set the wheels in motion for you.

I was thinking, obviously, as GOONERSGUIDE for a keyword for you but being quite long there are more opportunities for spelling mistakes (we've actually got steps we can use to address spelling mistakes in SMS keywords, btw) so wondered what you thought about GOONERS or GOONERSG as a tracking keyword?

We have mobile optimised landing pages that we can direct any mobile traffic to and next steps will be to trial custom co-branded mobile landing pages and banners too.

The way I see it, this is a market and product channel which is just as new to many programmes as it is to affiliates. I don't want to make lazy assumptions that player habits and behaviour will be the same for mobile punters as they might be for those sat at a desk infront of a PC. We feel we've got the technical execution of tracking down and sorted from a variety of different angles but I'm looking for partners and collaboration to figure out the best way to optimise all the other aspects of what we're all constantly being told is the next big thing.

I'd prefer to have GG as my keyword if possible - very little chance of a mistype there ...

You know, there was so much ado about the BetFred mobile, but is reality - just one page on your main website explaining how to download the software and that is it. Is that your real plans of promoting the BetFred mobile? Any other promotions, incentives, competitions, events or anything else? What kind of content should I publish on my websites promoting BetFred mobile? About your single page? If so, I predict that BetFred mobile would follow Crazy mobile casino death. Otherwise, it is a must to be aggressive on the mobile betting market. Please, let me know if I am wrong.

The Mobile Betting Platform is a new development for BetFred and we were very keen to create it in such a way as so to give as many affiliates as possible the chance to promote it. As I think I mentioned before, I'm really keen to develop partnerships and get useful input into how the platform should develop so if you have ideas and experience of what's worked well for you in the past then please let me know and I'll be happy to see if we can customise something especially for you.

We've started with simple awareness campaigns for players and affiliates but in the near future we will be introducing specific promotions and incentives for the mobile channel.

Right now we have very little data on which to base any judgements regarding player habits and lifetime value for mobile players which is why we're keen to build strong partnerships and aknowledge that there will be affiliates out there that have plenty more experience in this channel than we do, so why pretend different - we're not stepping into the mobile arena saying that we own the place and that we're the experts.

Betfred Affiliate Programme is evolving to make it much more responsive to affiliates needs and with mobile you can definitely be a part of that.

I'd be delighted to hear any ideas and experiences that you or others have found success with in Mobile.

Show some integrity Louis - IMHO, an employee of the company providing the affiliate tracking software for a service shouldn't be making these kind of statements, about a service that uses their product.

It's these kind of posts that have stopped me from investing much time and effort in GPWA.

I'm sorry that you feel that way about Louis's contribution.

It's no secret that Louis works for Income Access, of whom BetFred is a client and his input and assistance has been crucial to the great strides that I think many people will agree the BetFred programme has made in the last year.

However, its also well known that Louis is a very well respected voice within the industry and his acheivements and reputation preceed him. If his favourable comments about client-programmes were just a thinly veiled attempt to mislead affiliates his reputation would soon be compromised. I think many in the industry know enough about Louis to make up their own minds about his motivations for posting and will judge accordingly.

You may have a different opinion but I repectfully disagree.

Appreciate the comments, even negative, helps me learn.

I would have thought that since my allegiances are clearly outlined in my sig, that this type of "rah rahing" for our clients would not offend anyone. However, I appreciate your perspective at the same time. Affiliate managers who participate in GPWA have to be careful not to spam with program advertising or this forum could be come like others that have gone the way of the dodo..

With regards to Anthony's comments, he's right on the money. I certainly do not go about shilling programs just to make a quick buck, as this would burn out my reputation pretty fast. I honestly believe that Betfred Mobile does represent a landmark moment, as there are not too many big brands who have launched a mobile betting product for affiliates, at least not so aggressively. Being an innovator also means taking a lot of the fire as we go about figuring out how to best handle such a product, and we know that only by listening close to affiliate feedback will we have a chance of cultivating a truly successful mobile affiliate program...

On that note we've definitely taken the feedback you gave in A4U on board and are looking into the options.

I cannot discuss the technical aspects of how the platform should be developed, but as for the content I think you should create it in the following sequence - from simple to complex.

I have started promoting the online casinos after being a casino bonus hunter for a few years.
